At Generations Theater Company, we’re always looking for ways to improve the quality of our productions — not just through performance, but through the technical tools behind the scenes. This season, we took a big step forward by adding two QSC K12.2 powered speakers to our sound system, and we put them to work for the first time in our production of The Drowsy Chaperone Jr.

Vocals for the show were captured using hanging microphones, mixed through our Behringer X32 Compact digital console, and sent directly to the K2s. The results were immediately noticeable — clear dialogue, strong presence, and consistent coverage throughout the theater.

For new and experienced sound techs alike, the QSC K12.2 offers professional performance with user-friendly features. The built-in digital signal processing includes several presets; we used the “Live” setting to enhance vocal clarity and projection with minimal adjustment. The system delivered reliable sound all weekend long with zero issues.

The improved clarity helped our young cast shine, especially in ensemble scenes where every line mattered. Audiences commented on how easy it was to hear the performers — a direct result of the new setup.

From a technical perspective, the K12.2’s 2000-watt Class-D amplifier provided more than enough headroom for spoken word without needing compression or EQ heavy-lifting. The flat frequency response kept things natural, and the speakers handled open vocal mics with great gain-before-feedback — even in a lively acoustic space. It’s the kind of performance that makes mixing feel smooth and confident from the first soundcheck.
